More Button Pressing
Following on from my previous post regarding "Pressing the A Button", I've been working on how both the A and B will work together in order to interact with objects in the game. Getting it to feel right has been tricky, but I think I'm there now. The game's three playable characters have unique abilities, as shown in the video below:
The B button is the easy one, it's used by all three characters for the same thing, picking up and dropping objects.
The A button has some common use across characters, like unlocking doors, but it's also used to control each character's special ability. Sir Stamperlot can pull objects, Princess Ashby can search furniture and open chests, and Lester can fire projectiles when holding a weapon.
To help the player, I've added context sensitive button hints in the HUD at the bottom of the screen. The two images below illustrate this. The first one shows Lester being controlled whilst holding a weapon. Pressing A will fire the weapon, pressing B will drop it. In the second image, the player is in control of Princess Ashby who is holding a key. So again, B will drop the object, and A will unlock the door. Princess Ashby can't fire weapons, so if she picked up Lester's weapon, there would be no A option.

I currently have 7 possible actions:

This list could well grow, who knows!

This just keeps looking better and better! In addition to the Knight Lore/Head Over Heels vibes, I’m also getting Movie feelings when I see the characters pulling objects around now!
Haha, thanks. You should see my other project, Blackford PI, for full on Movie vibes :o)
I’ve actually played that but forgot about it haha you’re absolutely right!
