Am I missing something. I've had your game for a while on Mac and was sure I'd been playing with a pad. It's been many months, but I've come back to it this evening and my pad isn't being recognised. Other games seem fine, but I'm having no joy here.

It should just autodetect the gamepad. Weird that it worked before but doesn't now.

Ok cool, clearly something going on this end. Thanks for the reply :)

You're welcome, hope you get it working.

Hi. I've tried a few things (on and off over the weeks), including removing devices from my system, wired and wireless yet still no joy. Plenty of other games seem to be picking up the pad without issue, but not MM.A

Any chance we can bounce on this together to try to debug what's going on?

Feel free to contact me via any of the methods at www.bitglint.co.uk but I'm not sure what I'll be able to do. Gamepad detection is built into the Monogame framework, and I'm not a Mac person, so the odds are already stacked against us! :o)

Hi, I’m contacting you because I want to make a homebrew tribute USB. I’m collecting as many content creators as possible. I also want to include a profile for each one, with a few details, such as their logo, avatar, name, work completed, projects, etc., so you can see who’s behind their creations.

That profile, along with any material you allow me to upload, will be placed on a USB drive. This will act as a database of creators and their creations, and will be updated as I connect with new people.

The USB I’m thinking of creating will be one of those rubber-type USBs, shaped like a Spectrum computer, something that looks really nice. The idea is that those who contribute material, and if they want to buy one or more, will get it at cost price, and those who just want to buy one, it will cost a little more.

The idea is that if enough are sold, enough to recover the initial investment, the profits that the rest of the USBs could generate will be distributed among the people who have contributed material to the project, via transfer, PayPal, or however possible, even if possible, that the USB will be free. Obviously, you can buy more than one, but only one of them can be free.

It’s not necessary or mandatory to buy the USB, only if you like it or want it.

If you’re interested in this project, you can contact me at this email, flopping@gmail.com. If you have any questions or concerns, let me know and I’ll answer them. Do you think the idea is a good one? Would you like to participate in the project? Let me know. Best regards.

Juan.

Hi Juan, good luck with the project but I don't want Melkhior's Mansion to be monetised in any way, so please don't include it. Hope you understand. :o)

Hi, don’t worry, I won’t include any material that the owner doesn’t authorize. This isn’t about monetizing the game; this is more of a database of content creators. It will also include a profile for each creator, with their logo, name, avatar, projects, etc., which is why I want to include some of their creations. Also, this is only for Spectrum; there are no other systems. And I want it to be updatable, meaning every 3 or 4 months. We’ll see. I want to release updates. Obviously, the USB must be sold, as it costs money to do so. Also, keep in mind that your game will be one of hundreds that will be included on the USB. But if you have another game or even a demo, you can include that, no problem.

Awesome Game! What engine did you make it with? Do you have ANY GodmDot or GameMaker games?

Thanks. It's written in C# using Monogame and it's all written from scratch, including the isometric engine. I don't have any Godot or GameMaker games, I've never used those tools.

Oh, you appear to be a spam bot. Hello bot.

lol... no? Why would you think that? I'm from a project called PortMaster and we get games running on Linux handheld devices. We are limited to certain engines and other restraints for what we can make work, So, i was curious if you had any Godot or GameMaker games because they can be ran on PortMaster easily.  https://portmaster.games/games.html you can also check out our discord.

Haha, oh ok, my mistake. I saw that you'd put the same comment on dozens of projects, all around the same time. :o)

brilliant mix of knightlore visuals and atic atac gameplay and the whole 'ultimate play the game' vibe from the graphics, animation and the music.

i felt the collision detection on the enemies could be more lenient as it seems you have to be absolutely in the correct line with them to hit them and with isometric viewpoint it's difficult sometimes?

otherwise, great stuff!

Thanks for your feedback, glad to hear you're enjoying the game. The collision thing was a tricky balance, and yes you're right, it can be a little weird sometimes in isometric. Also the low resolution doesn't help. I appreciate you offering some honest critique ;o)

Can you make an option to spawn less monsters or at least make spawns less frequent? It’s quite frantic for an isometric puzzle game. And not just frantic but like… constantly frantic.

Melkhior's is a finished project now, so I can't see me finding the time to make any more changes. The game it's inspired by, Atic Atac, is a frantic run around exploratory game, rather than slow and steady puzzler, so removing the frantic nature of the enemies would take away from the essence of the game. I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea. One day I would love to do a sequel that's a bit slower paced and requires more thought to achieve the game's tasks.

I second BrainSlugs opinion. It's a very nice game but much too frantic for me to be enjoyable (yes, I've tried it, can survive a dozen rooms or two).
A slower paced version or sequel would be welcomed. What about no respawns, but a few puzzles or traps?

Yeh like I said, if a sequel ever did come along, it would be something a bit slower, less crazy, more puzzles, etc, etc.

it shouldnt have the zx tag if its not spectrum imo.

still however, excellent game and fanatastic work.

Thanks for the feedback, glad to hear you're enjoying the game. The "zx-spectrum" tag is used because the game is inspired by a Spectrum classic, and it also uses the Spectrum colour palette. :o)

which i dowload of the windows?

i dowloaded the exe if the better is the zip say it to me

The exe is an installer, the zip file just lets you unzip and run the exe. They are both the same version of the game.

Okay

my geometric thinking skills always fool me while playing but the soundtrack and game itself is insanely good

Haha, thanks :o)

Excellent soundtrack, well designed, gorgeous graphics and a plethora of scenarios for the mind to fill in the blanks of what possibilities may be had.  A true oldskool game, sticking to a strict formula, that is executed in near-perfection. This is one addictive game, once you get into it. I'm not one who's ever turned to walkthroughs, nor spoilers so this should keep me going for quite some time. Really looking forward to beating this one, on just about any difficulty level. Nice to see several palettes represented (although I do thoroughly enjoy the ZX Spectrum one), well as options with regards to movement. If you ever wondered 'what made games so great back in the days?' I strongly suggest you give Melkhior's Mansion a spin - it doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, nor is it trying to 'modernize' anything. It is simple, fun and addictive, with a few extras sprinkled on top for good measures. A solid videogame.

Wow! Best feedback ever, thanks so much. You totally get what I was trying to achieve with this game. I hope it lives up to your early expectations. Knowing the map is key to doing well. Good luck.

Melkhiors Mansion 2 confirmed!

(/test project)

Haha! Cheeky! :o

This is absolutely incredible. The attention to detail shows a lot of love. And its haaard!! Digging me graph paper out to make a map. Not done that in a lot of years! :) Thank you.

Thanks, a lot of love certainly went into it. Knowing the map is key to being successful in the game. Good luck, I would love to see any maps you do create.

Congratulations for this amazing work.

What about a linux/arm/RaspberryPi version ???

(I think that "RasPi" has the philosophy of ancient 8bit microcomputers)

Thanks, glad to hear you like it. One day I'll have a tinker with other Linux versions, just got too much other stuff going on at the moment :o)
